Weighing units: can be switched by pressing a button, e.g. to non-metric units.
Battery operation: 4 x 1.5 V AA.
Strain gauges: ribbon shaped electric resistor, which is bonded to an elastic spring element. Measured value determined by change to the resistance of the mechanically deformed DMS.
Battery operation: rechargeable set.
