Pallet lift trucks: practical helpers for industry, trade, and logistics

Do you want to move goods from A to B quickly and effortlessly? Pallet trucks are a compact and maneuverable solution. They allow you to transport goods in the smallest spaces where many forklifts already have to give up. It's no wonder that industrial trucks are still so popular today since they were invented in 1948.

    Choose the right pallet truck

Depending on which requirements you have for your new pallet truck, different models may be suitable. Important criteria include the load capacity, lifting height, maneuverability of the pallet truck, and comfort.

Short, narrow pallet lift trucks: They are designed for maneuvering in small spaces and are suitable for short pallets such as half Euro or plastic pallets.
Extra-long pallet lift trucks: With pallet lift trucks with a fork length from 1.30 to 2.50 meters, you can transport oversized goods or two pallets simultaneously. As a rule, their maximum load capacity is two tons.
Heavy-duty pallet lift trucks: Heavy-duty pallet lift trucks that weigh more than three tons are the right choice because they can withstand the load better.
Pallet lift trucks with rounded tips: These pallet trucks offer added safety. Because they make picking up pallets easier and more convenient.

How to choose the right wheels for pallet lifting

An important prerequisite for maneuvering a pallet truck comfortably and safely is that the rollers are tailored to the working environment and the goods in transport. For correct use, you should choose which steering wheels – primarily responsible for maneuverability – and load and fork rollers which must bear the actual weight at the front of the fork and translate it into a fluid rolling movement.

In addition to the roller diameter, the load capacity, and the installation length, the material of the rollers is particularly important when choosing the right pallet truck. Castors made of polyurethane are suitable for sensitive floors and are particularly quiet. Polyamide and nylon, on the other hand, are valued as shockproof and temperature-resistant materials. While steel rollers are primarily in demand for heavy loads, the quiet, cost-effective, and easy-to-maneuver solid rubber rollers are mainly used as steering wheels on pallet trucks.

Here's what you should know about using pallet trucks

The use of pallet trucks is subject to specific conditions. Manual pallet trucks require an annual inspection, and a daily check of all devices in use is necessary. It's also crucial to wear safety shoes classified as S2 to S4, depending on the storage environment, while handling pallet trucks. For more details, consult the guidelines provided by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on the proper use of foot and knee protection.
