ESD wheels and castors
What if you've eliminated all sources of electrostatic discharge in the ESD area, but haven't looked into transport yet? ESD wheels and ESD castors offer an ideal solution.
In the category ESD wheels and castors we offer you products of the following brands: Wicke.
ESD wheels and ESD castors: no resistance to safety
A low rolling resistance is one of the most important factors that distinguish good wheels and castors. For use in ESD workplaces, however, it's not just about how comfortable the transport is: the rolling components must reliably dissipate friction and electrical charges, thereby preventing discharges – and also do a little to outwit the laws of physics. And that's exactly what our high quality ESD wheels and ESD castors do.
What distinguishes conductive castors and ESD wheels?
A certain amount of friction between the ground and the castor is necessary for an type of forward propulsion by wheels and castors at all. However, this friction produces imbalanced charges. Normal tyres – for example the type used on swivel and fixed castors – are made from plastics that are primarily designed for the ground conditions, for resistance to chemicals and for low wear. Conductivity is a minor issue in this case.
These plastics are not suitable for transporting components that are sensitive to ESD, or for setting up a flexible ESD workstation. ESD castors and ESD wheels therefore feature thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) as tyres that reliably prevent them from becoming charged.
Which different models are there?
Wheels and castors as ESD versions are available as individual replacement castors or complete swivel or fixed castors. You can use them to upgrade ESD transport equipment or prepare ESD containers for mobile use.
What do I need to consider when using ESD castors?
The conductive tyres used for ESD castors can leave oily stains on porous flooring. If you are looking for ESD models for sensitive surfaces, please contact us.
Low rolling resistance and low-noise motion are standard features of all our models. Depending on the product, however, the max. load that can be moved by these castors is somewhat lower than that of comparable versions without ESD compatibility. You should take this into account when combining the castors and the transport device.
How can I increase the level of ESD protection even further?
Take everything very seriously when it comes to ESD. Every employee who handles components or products that are susceptible to ESD should wear appropriate ESD work clothing and be trained in specific conduct to provide protection from discharges. The ESD workstation itself should be equipped with ESD floor coverings, and work should only ever be carried out on ESD desks and chairs.
